Recommendation of A Home for Mom and Dad

Adult Living Alternatives worked with A Home for Mom and Dad in placing our clients in his adult care home from November 2003 to the time of his move from the Portland area in October 2008.  The Provider’s understanding of medical issues, sense of humor and upbeat personality made it a pleasure to do business with.  Out of the 600+ adult care homes that our business works with, This home was unique because of the ability to inspire and challenge particularly our younger male clients.  With our older clients, the provider’s broad medical knowledge and helpful insight were always respected. The Provider’s interest in providing unique diversionary activities for the residents also set them apart from so many other adult care homes.

This feedback from a daughter who placed her father in this home expresses many of the reasons we thought so highly of him:

"…I have been very pleased with the high quality of care that has been provided for Dad starting the day of admission.  Dad’s care has been very difficult and challenging due to substantial behavior issues related to severe dementia.  Dad has hit, kicked and tried to bite the caregiver.  I know of no other care home in the community, including Multnomah County, where an operator would have the know-how and be willing to provide the kind of care that Dad requires.  Using a combination of experience, patience, compassion and humor to cajole Dad into getting the job done, whatever that may be.  They like to cook; tend to cook fresh foods including fruit and vegetables in season.  They have persisted with continued attempts to get Dad to take in calories.  Communication lines are wide open – I receive telephone calls, and emails with attached photos to download to see for myself how Dad is doing…  The care giving technique combines expertise and humor with an expectation that residents continue to be held responsible for those tasks that they are still capable of providing for themselves.  Truly this provider has captured the homelike atmosphere that we as trainers find so difficult to teach.  This foster home is the essence of a home.  Respect for residents is prevalent….” Per daughter, RN MS; 4/18/05
